Bioscan is regularly instructed by nature conservation organisations to assist with surveys, research and monitoring on nature reserves and other designated land, with past and ongoing clients including the National Trust, Natural England, the RSPB and The Wildlife Trusts.

Commissions in this sector have ranged from desk-top data reviews and advice through to detailed and long-term botanical and invertebrate monitoring and the assembly of robust evidence for SSSI notification.

On the back of a longer running contract to monitor the effects of management on the Lugg Meadows SSSI, east of Hereford, Bioscan were asked by Herefordshire Wildlife Trust and Natural England to consider the quality of the grassland over the wider Lugg Meadows site (and latterly the nearby Hampton Meadow). The Holies and Lardon Chase are Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) owned and managed by the National Trust at the Goring Gap, designated primarily on the basis of their chalk grasslands, which are generally acknowledged to be the best chalk grasslands remaining in Berkshire.
