Bioscan acted for various incarnations of a major renewables company (Innogy, RWE, Npower) on site-selection, micro-siting, design, EIA, four public inquiries and eventual construction and aftercare for the 16 turbine Mynydd y Gwair wind farm between 2004 and 2022. The project was locally controversial due to its location on common land and due to concerns about its impacts on grazing rights scarce peat resource and other ecological receptors such as birds and bats. Bioscan carried out the surveys and assessments for two Environmental Impact Assessments and presented evidence on a broad range of topics, including carbon sequestration and payback, to two planning inquiries and two Commons Act inquiries before the scheme was eventually granted all of the appropriate consents. Bioscan were retained as the Project Ecologists through a challenging implementation phase, and provided an Ecological Clerk of Works to oversee the bespoke habitat mitigation and compensation measures.
